Weekend review

Ubelievable weekend for Blaze wiping out the big boys of the league...

Coventry Blaze had their best weekend of the season so far with a road win in Nottingham panthers on Saturday (5-4) and a home win against Sheffield(3-2). It kicked off Saturday with a short trip to Nottingham for a big game between two big rivals. A tense first period saw blaze open the scoring early doors but quickly panthers were on the board via Matt Francis for a 1-1 first period. Second period was all Nottingham with a Second and third goal  and Panthers were in full control but blaze weren't letting this go and got back on the board. Panther took a two goal lead into the final period though with a quick response. Blaze were now determined to win and two goals midway through the third would send a 4-4 game to overtime. An eventful extra period, was still tied, so the shootout commenced. Both teams missed the first attempts but a goal  from Adam Henrich in round two would prove to be the only goal of this tight shootout to give blaze the vital points and stun Panthers. Coventry had lots of confidence going into Sundays game back at home against Sheffield steelers. This was a huge game which saw a goalless first session but blaze wanted this so bad and a goal in the second would have blaze one period away from a great weekend. Blaze were now in form and were ready for anything but Steelers spoilt the party as Stephen Myer levelled the score for 1-1. Ashley Tait bought the celebrations back quickly and had them in full control. Steelers didn't want this to slip though and leveled late on to send it to another overtime. Just 58 seconds in Ryan Ginand send the home crowd wild as he scored a great goal to complete a great weekend. highlights here:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ngMQPZKJ-do stats: http://www.eliteleague.co.uk/stats/official-game-report.php?game_id=1688

Fife fly to an amazing weekend...

Possibly Fifes best weekend in 2013 saw a win against the Sheffield steelers who had a disappointing weekend also loosing to Coventry on Sunday. Saturday was fantastic play from the flyers in a 2-0 first period with a fantastic 2 on 1 goal to start it off and would go into period two. Steelers weren't giving up easily though and finally got on the board only for Fife to spoil the party with still a two goal advantage at the end of period two. Fife would not score any more goals in the third but a late steelers goal was too little too late! Flyers would the take the points. Sundays game was vs Cardiff devils in wales and what a game it was. Flyers were trailing 2-0 after period one but scored three straight in the second to lead 3-2, a devils equalizer late on though sent it to overtime and penalties. A very tight shootout went just Fifes way as they took the points again for a great weekend. stats: http://www.eliteleague.co.uk/stats/official-game-report.php?game_id=1687
