Pre-season round up

The EIHL teams got started this week and the week before and played some great games of ice hockey.

Belfast Giants, just a few days after launching their new jerseys, got off to a winning start with a close 2-1 victory over Cardiff Devils, who had lost 3-2 to enemies Coventry Blaze just a few days earlier! On Sunday, they returned home and finally got on the correct side of the score board. A thriller ended 7-5 in favour of the Welsh side. Devils also got revenge on Blaze a few days later with a comeback from 4-2 down in the final period to get a 6-4 win.

Italians, HC Asiago Lions took on, but lost, to Dundee Stars 4-2, before bouncing back with a 3-1 win against the Braehead Clan, before a 5-2 loss the next day which went to penalties for a 6-5 aggregate win and the Purple Army puts their colours on the Aladin cup once again!

Clans confidence rose even more, with an easy 15-0 win over Solway Sharks to show a dangerous Clan side for this new season.

Before their shock loss to Cardiff, Coventry Blaze lost to Sheffield Steelers on a Saturday night, before going back home to Coventry to win 5-1.

Edinburgh Capitals had a 4-2 loss to Dundee Stars before a 1-1 draw, which will be the only draw we see this season as the rules stay the same with overtime and penalties in every game (Apart from the first leg of two legged games)!

Hull Stingrays met Peterborough Phantoms from the EPL away, but lost 6-3. On Wednesday night, they got payback, winning 4-0 on Humberside!

Fresh from their CHL games, Nottingham Panthers played in the mini four team touranemt, the Napolean cup last weekend, and won it! Dan Green, Panthers back up goalie proved himself a hero helping the team in all three games!

That's the pre-season games over! Tomorrow, the real thing starts! The EIHL curtain raiser as Belfast Giants take on the Dundee Stars. Erhardt vs Gardiner conference champions as the teams both start defending them cups, Giants also with an EIHL title to defend! Full preview to follow...
