The battle for second place has been tight throughout the season but this weekend, it ended. With Belfast Giants already Elite league champions, the best thing anyone could do was runners up. It was a race between Nottingham Panthers, Sheffield Steelers, Dundee Stars and Braehead clan to do this and this weekend, someone finally claimed second spot. That team was Sheffield Steelers! They played two teams in two very different situations. Edinburgh Capitals on Saturday who are the team with nothing to play for now but Sunday was a team in that huge play-off race.,the Hull Stingrays!
Out of competition caps put on a good show, but not enough to hold off Steelers...
As of late, Edinburgh Capitals have done some impressive things and are on a good run. They may now be out of the race for all cups but now seem to playing really well. They would probably be in with a chance of success if they played like they were now. Too little too late.
Since signing new coach Gerad Adams, Steelers had only lost once which is really great for the steel city who have struggled for years now though this could be just what they're looking for!
Only two wins away from second place sealed, Sheffield had a competitive first session with only one goal coming off Stefan Meyers stick at 16:29.
It remained the only goal until the third when 8:21 into the period, Maxime Lacroix doubled it up but Dangerous caps, who strangely weren't scoring finally broke their deadlock and Frank Doyles shut-out as Curtis Leinweber halved steelers lead and were desperate to get right back in it with an all important equalising goal. They took the risky gamble of pulling an outstanding Hiladvlosky but this proved not enough as steelers tasted second when again, Meyer finding the net, this time, no one to stop him. Both teams had put on a real fight but steelers came out victorious and were almost in the second place spot. Steelers 3-1 Capitals.
