Challenge cup final- first leg: Early pressure from Giants gives Panthers massive challenge to comeback...

Last night, the challenge cup final between Belfast Giants and Nottingham Panthers got off with a bang. They face in a double header at the Big O in Belfast this weekend, one as a challenge cup, the other as the final EIHL league game of the season for these clubs. They will meet again Tuesday too, this time in Nottingham as the second leg of the challenge cup final when the cup will be decided! Its all to play for! :-)

5 goals for Giants in a bid to stop 5 cups for Panthers!

Nottingham panthers, now looking for a record breaking fifth challenge cup in a row, came for a tough test vs new league champions, Belfast Giants who have been panthers main victims over the years when it comes to the cup.

Their cc revenge started well, as Craig Peacock fired Giants into the lead early on, 7:41 in then the same guy again netted at 19:11 in the final minute of the first for 2-0 Giants!

The first few minutes of the second were hectic, 22:43 was the time of Jeffrey Szwezes goal which looked to be putting the cup out of reach, but not long after, Panthers were finally on the board thanks to Robert Farmer. 3-1. It was a battle of the forwards at this point, two more Giants goals from Colin Sheilds and Daryl Lloyd made sure it was their game by making it a 5-1 spread. Johnathan Weaver gave some hope closing the gap to three but that wouldn't be enough! Final score: Belfast Giants 5-2 Nottingham Panthers!
